Magna Celebrates 10,000th Event Booking
South Yorkshire based MAGNA celebrates 10,000th event booking. Opened in 2002 and part of the award winning Magna Science Adventure Centre, the huge conference and events centre is one of the largest in the region with 4,000m2 of space used for everything from awards dinners to exhibitions, concerts and sporting events.
The landmark 10,000th event booking is for Get Up To Speed 2020, commonly referred to as GUTS, one of North of England’s largest careers exhibitions connecting science, technology and engineering global giants such as Rolls Royce, Boeing and McLaren with the next generation workforce of over 2,500 school children.
John Barber Chief Executive of Work-Wise foundation who manage GUTS said, ‘We are delighted to be the 10,000th event booking at MAGNA. It is the icing on the cake as 2020 will also be the 10thAnniversary of Get Up To Speed, so a double celebration. Since moving GUTS to MAGNA in 2015 the event has gone from strength to strength and this is in no small part due to an amazing venue, incredible support and positive attitude we receive from the MAGNA team. That’s why we keep coming back!’
MAGNA which scooped the Best Unusual Event Space at the prestigious 2018 Corporate Hospitality Show Awards has enjoyed 17 years of hosting a huge range of events from an ever growing local, national and international client list.
Julia Murray, MAGNA’s Event Manager who has worked at the venue since it opened, reminisced about some of the most memorable events over the years, ‘I’ve especially loved all the large themed award dinners including the stunning Willy Wonka and Harry Potter nights for Weston Park Cancer Charity. And who can forget the 600 fitness enthusiasts in our Big Hall for a week long workout masterclass for worldwide exercise phenomenon Les Mills. But my all-time favourite was when Dolly Parton performed her classic hits including “Nine to Five”.’
Home to the World’s highest indoor permanent Bungee Jump, there’s no shortage of space at MAGNA. The monumental Big Hall measures 93m long, 22m wide and 10m high and can fit a whopping 1,000 guests for dinner, 3,500 seated theatre style or 5,000 people standing. Over the years the huge ‘blank canvas’ has hosted luxurious banquets, blue chip AGMs, exhibitions, product launches, dance and beer festivals, fun fairs and even an indoor golf driving range.
Every May the whole of MAGNA is completely transformed for HorrorConUK, a spine-chilling blood and gore-fest and the UK’s biggest horror convention.
Countless products have been launched from MAGNA including the world exclusive unveiling of Kia’s Stonic range to their customer facing sales team.
MAGNA is frequently used for sporting events including televised Darts tournaments, Tae Kwan Do competitions and regular boxing nights for England Boxing and semi-pro organisations.
