Magna appoints new business development manager
Magna has appointed a new business development manager to help drive growth in the venue’s conference facilities and events offering.
Ian Linley, joins Magna from restaurant and nightclub chain, Tiger Tiger, where he was national sales manager, and has a background in event management having studied for a HND in hotel and institutional management, catering and event management.
In his new role, Ian’s focus will be to promote Magna as a first-class venue to corporate clients, exhibitors and conference organisers across the UK. Ian will also work with partners to promote the venue’s award-winning science visitor attraction to families across Yorkshire.
Ian said: “I’m thrilled to have joined the team at Magna and look forward to helping attract some more big corporate names to this fantastic event space.
“Magna is a versatile space and the only venue in Yorkshire able to accommodate vehicle access - presenting exciting opportunities to work with car manufacturers on their product launches. Not only this, but our smaller meeting rooms offer great opportunities for local businesses.”
John Silker, chief executive at Magna, said: “Ian joins us with a wealth of experience within the hospitality industry, and is a great addition to the team. We’re delighted to have secured his expertise and are confident that he will contribute to what is already a bright future here at Magna.”
Magna, housed in the former Templeborough Steelworks near junction 34 of the M1, has hosted corporate clients including Mercedes, Royal Mail, Kia Motors and HSBC.
The venue has a dedicated events team and offers first-rate, in-house catering facilities for a wide range of events from product launches, conferences, concerts and sporting events, to theatre shows, presentations, exhibitions, drinks receptions and multicultural weddings.
As well as hosting corporate events, Magna organises its own programme of exhibitions, festivals and parties, and on 7 October will again host its annual Oktoberfest event.
Magna is also home to the venue’s award-winning visitor attraction, with more than 100 hands-on exhibits designed to explore the four elements of air, water, earth and fire, and hosts regular school trips.
